Research Interests:

My primary research interests are in the development and use of methodologies for parallel programming, especially in the field of image processing. I am particularly interested in the use of functional languages (such as Caml) for fast prototyping of vision applications on dedicated parallel systems.

I am also interested in the implementation of functional programming languages in general and in their relationship with the data-flow execution model in particular.

Projects:

  • EmBounded: an EU Framework VI Project about Embedded Software

Software samples:

  • A bunch of extensions for the Camlidl stub code generator
  • FGN: A Functional Graph Notation System
  • Scampi: A Simple Caml to MPI interface
  • CamlG4: A parallel SIMD library for Objective Caml on PowerPC G4 processors
  • SKiPPER-D: A skeleton-based parallel programming environment based upon macro-dataflow interpretation techniques

Ph.D. Students currently working with me:

  • Joel Falcou has worked on the design and implementation of parallel vision algorithms
  • Fabio Dias Real De Oliveira works on the design of methodologies and CASE tools for programming active vision algorithms on FPGA+DSP based hardware platforms.

Teaching:

I teach at Blaise Pascal University (Clermont-Ferrand), mainly in the Electrical Engineering Department of Polytech'Clermont-Ferrand and in the Master Vision for Robotics in the same university. Main topics are :

  • Real-time and Embedded systems
  • Digital System Design
  • Parallel programming
